The purpose of this exercise is to stress the relationship between structure and function and to study the adaptability of fish to their environments. The activities teach about classification systems, anatomy, habitats, and behavior. Students create a new fish and assign their creation a genus and species name. Then they coordinate its habitat, survival techniques, behavior, and feeding patterns. At the end of their project, students defend the characteristics they have selected for their new fish species in a five minute presentation. Designed for 24 students working in groups of two.
