PAPER TRAIL

Introduce middle school students to the excitement of forensics with this age appropriate crime scene related document analysis kit. Students perform
physical and chemical analyses of a variety of papers and inks using a number of techniques including chromatography, microscopy, and an alignment
tool to analyse documents and handwriting. Students produce and retrieve hidden messages, and prepare forged and authenticated documents.
Requires four to five class periods. Required, but not included: microscopes, 100 Watt desk lamps and/or hot plates, fresh lemon juice, spray starch,
newspaper, scissors, water, white paper, and paper-clips. Designed for 24 students working in six groups of four. Meets national standards for grades 5-8.
