These ideal first microscopes consist of a slide tray, a vertical microscope which allows the pupils to study specimens from above, and a horizontal viewer which allows the study of specimens from below. The vertical section, when in place, forms a sealed unit which prevents any live insects from escaping, but can also be lifted off and used as a magnifying glass.
