In the laboratory, students identify that a mixture can be separated using one of a variety of methods such as evaporation, distillation, filtration, or crystallization when differences in solubility exist. Experiment one is designed to separate a mixture of an element and a compound using solubility and filtration. Experiment two is designed to separate a mixture of two compounds using solubility and filtration. Experiment three is designed to separate a mixture using chromatography. Experiment four is designed to separate a mixture by evaporation. Includes all required chemicals, vocabulary exercise, and reproducible laboratory procedures and worksheets. Required, but not included: balance and laboratory supplies. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Meets national standards for grades 7-10.
